Boothill Graveyard, Tombstone, AZ

Despite the souvenir shops you have to pass by and pass through to get there; despite the parking lot that is only an ill-disguised fence away; despite the age-old jokes and the occasional humorous headstone – in fact, AGAINST ALL ODDS – the Boothill Graveyard
is a quiet, peaceful, beautiful resting place with a panoramic view that those who visit will find breathtaking, yet tranquil, even after all these years. In fact, especially after all these years - because when the cemetery location was chosen back in 1878, those rolling hills, brilliant blue skies, views unimpeded by modern building, and desert landscapes were the norm – not the luxury they are today.

I admit to being almost overwhelmed by the history and loveliness of it all. And by the sense of peace. Most of all, by the sense of peace.

God bless the citizens of Tombstone who work lovingly to keep this graveyard well cared for and serene.

More words would serve no purpose, so I’m going to stop now.

Just visit Boothill someday if you can – and try to be there at sunset.
