Chop Wood, Carry Water

There is a Zen saying "Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water."

Chatty is in the midst of one of those chopping wood/carrying water periods.

    Without the enlightenment, of course.

She awoke this morning with this wannabe saying running through her head:

Change happens with or without you
                        Therefore, do not seek change.
For if you do, you shall receive it.
                        Probably in pennies.

Happily, she felt better (though no more enlightened) after a cup of coffee, but suddenly she was curious.

Chatty already knew it costs the US Mints 6 cents to produce each unit of paper currency. It doesn't matter whether it is a $1 bill or a $500 bill - each one costs about 6 cents to print. A nice return, even on a $1 bill. But what about a penny?

So she looked it up. Does anyone want to guess how much it costs to make a penny?

Meanwhile, back to chopping wood and carrying water...

    And, most importantly...

    to The Wiz!
