Chatty’s Vicarious Dream

In her heart of hearts, Chatty has always wanted to own a used bookstore. A place where she could earn her living – and read on the clock!

But the expense... renting a store, paying insurance, buying the stock - and the list goes on …*sigh*

It’s just not in Chatty’s cards at the moment.

Luckily, she has many other things she loves to do - like cooking, crafting, and chatting on her blog.

Still, it was a thrill to find out that a friend of hers from California has moved to Phoenix and is opening a book nook in the wonderful “junktique” shop owned by her family.

She has been given a separate room in the store, and free rein to stock it as she pleases. The employees, insurance, facility – are all provided. Her task is to design, decorate and stock her room - and that's a big task. Chatty was happy to help – because Chatty has LOTS of books, and her friend just bought 7 boxes of them – mostly mysteries and science fiction. Her friend is a passionate reader, too, and is looking forward both to selling Chatty’s books and to reading them when she has a few spare moments.

We went to lunch, caught up on each other’s lives, sat outside by the pool and just generally had a wonderful afternoon. We loved sitting out by the pool in the middle of the afternoon - especially considering that on Monday and Tuesday it was 108 degrees - because it's 70 degrees today. We even had a little rain! Apparently this is a weather anomaly that has not occurred here in Arizona for over 100 years. Very cool - in more ways than one!

But getting back to the books - Chatty is hoping she will have the opportunity to go over and help get things organized before the grand opening, which will be in a few weeks. She has put the offer out there, anyway.

This is vicarious joy, but joy nonetheless!

Now, it’s back to beading. Tomorrow, Chatty will be adding the top loops, and all the “ups and extras” to the cabochons she showed you in a previous post.

With luck, Chatty will be wearing one of her creations by Memorial Day!
