Fireworks above and below

Chatty had a nice 4th of July celebration with The Wiz and a couple of good friends. We barbecued, swam, ate chocolate cake, and generally enjoyed ourselves.
Nobody but Chatty was particularly interested in fireworks, however *sigh* so Chatty had to make do with standing in her neighbors’ driveway - the better to see the fireworks display at the community college a few blocks away. From there, she had a pretty good view between the roofs of two houses across the street.
Chatty being Chatty, she had been too busy talking to her friends and The Wiz to remember that the fireworks show at the college started at 8:40. She then ignored several big “booms”, because there had been lightning and a windstorm a bit earlier, so she figured it was just thunder.
“But, wait!”, Chatty thought to herself around 9 PM…”Maybe that’s NOT thunder – maybe it’s….YIKES! You’re missing the fireworks!”
Chatty then made a dash for the front yard - where she could see nothing - then headed next door, where she could see a lot between the aforementioned roofs.
The fireworks were lovely, but what made this a once-in-a-lifetime experience was that Mother Nature was weighing in with massive lightning bolts all around the fireworks display.
It was as if she had taken a look at the fireworks far below her and said “Ha! Is THAT all you’ve got? Take a look at THIS!”… And then just went crazy.
When reading the news and seeing the pictures of what’s been going on world-wide lately, it is obvious to anyone with even a mere moiety of their marbles that Mother Nature is not to be toyed with.
But occasionally she’s in a playful mood, and shoots off her own fireworks - putting man’s pitiful efforts to shame. This time, she did it concurrently.
It was awesome – and Chatty means that in the literal sense of the word.

Wow, you could see fireworks from your neighborhood?

We saw wonderful fireworks from my brother's backyard (since he was lighting them off) but no such awesome displays of mother nature.
Thanks for sharing!

Wow, that is great.

I love fireworks, but didn't get to enjoy any this year either.
The "youngins" are STILL, however, popping off annoying firecrackers and bottle rockets throughout AJ's neighborhood.
Mother Nature Rocks though!
No WWC this week?? Me neither, felt a little down and tired.

Nope - no WWC this week for me, either. I just couldn't think of a darned thing for either "beauty" OR "age" that hadn't just been done to death already *sigh*
Mother Nature DOES rock, doesn't she? When she isn't busy raining terror and death down upon us, of course...

I don't understand folks who aren't interested in fireworks. Great shot, did you take that? It's always been an ambition of mine to get a shot of lightning!
