The Beautiful and Totally Unexpected Gift
A short time ago, The Wiz did a very difficult computer job for a lady who is a quilter. She had an extremely expensive software embroidery/quilting program that was refusing to install or to work properly, and the company’s tech support was basically refusing to admit that there was a problem.
It took The Wiz many hours over the course of several days to figure out and resolve the problem. He charged the lady a very fair price – certainly not by the hour! She was pleased, which was the main thing - because The Wiz just loves to help people and to fix whatever is wrong. In any case, the job was done well, and we thought no more of it.
But today, she dropped by with "a little something” for us - her words, not Chatty’s!
It is a gorgeous quilt, in “our” colors. She had been over here for a bit while The Wiz was toiling over her computer, and had noticed the colors we have in our family room and living room. She went home, found a quilt she had made in those colors in 2005, and presented it to us today! It had been stored in her guestroom, awaiting the perfect new home.
The Wiz is delighted, because he loves the colors, he loves the pattern, and he thinks it’s very nice of her to give it to us.
Chatty, however, knows how many hours went into making such a beautiful piece - so she is not only delighted and grateful, she is also stunned and almost overwhelmed by such kindness!

Chatty just loves quilts, but has not had one of her own since the quilt her grandmother made as a girl was lost in a move back when Chatty was in high school. She has always wanted another one, but (sssshhhhh....don't tell anyone!) Chatty cannot use a sewing machine to save her life. She cannot even sew a straight seam. Pathetic, but true. Chatty excels at hand work, though, hence the needlework and beading. But Chatty digresses...
To buy a quilt would have been an expensive luxury, so Chatty never did it. And she certainly never dreamed that a quilting artist would just GIVE Chatty and The Wiz one of her creations. But, that's what happened!
At the moment, our new beauty will stay in the family room, where everyone can admire and enjoy it. But, when we have overnight visitors, the quilt will move from the family room to become the coverlet for the four-poster bed in the guestroom, where it will also look just lovely.
Chatty and The Wiz will treasure it forever, and bless the lady who made it.
Aren’t people sometimes just amazingly and unexpectedly kind?

I love quilts and have several.
Someone my husband used to work with made my youngest daughter I crib quilt--I think that's what I'll do when I finally take up quiliting--it's a much more manageable size.
Yours is beautiful.

How sweet! I love it when someone does something so thoughtful! And, that is why I love to do unexpected little things too (I realize a quilt is a big thing, but you know what I mean!)
How pretty!
