A Dog's Diary
My friend Chatty has asked me to be her VERY FIRST guest author, because she wanted my thoughts on how a dog chooses what kind of a dog to be…
Well, at first, I thought I wanted to be big and powerful - so I was thinking maybe I wanted a St. Bernard as a sire (and not ALL of them have long hair, which would be uncomfortable where I live)…

But, St. Bernard’s are not noted for their speed or agility - so I thought maybe a German Wirehaired Pointer as my mommy would be a nice idea…
Then, of course, Chows are noted for their fidelity - and I am nothing if not faithful to my “human” daddy:

And dachshunds are so darned cute – everybody loves those “weiner dogs”!

So, since I couldn’t choose, I just decided to be the very best, most loving, handily-sized and handsome mutt in the world. It was easy, really – just take a look at my baby pics:

It’s hard to believe, but I AM a mixture of all the dogs mentioned above! My friends Protector of all Four-Leggers and Accountant Hero proved it by having my DNA tested as a birthday present for my daddy - who was probably wondering what the heck kind of dog I really am…
Hey - did anyone out there even KNOW that you could have doggy-DNA analyzed? Chatty and I didn’t! Leave it to Protector of all Four-Leggers and Accountant Hero to find out cool stuff like that…
By the time you read this, my daddy will know what kind of a dog I really am.
But actually, he already knew…
I am Dekker, his BEST DOG EVER!
In case you were wondering, my daddy is Scott – and in addition to having me as the best dog ever, he also has one of the coolest websites ever - Chatty just loves it, and visits frequently. I would too, if I could read!
So, go visit when you have a few minutes hours to spare - and if you ever make it to Hollywood, be sure to take one of his Dearly Departed Tours - especially if you like Hollywood gossip, scandals, and assorted tragedies as much as Chatty does. I like the stories about Benji, Lassie, and of course Beethoven the St. Bernard myself...
Well, I don’t have anything else to say - except that I love my daddy, and that Chatty and I hope he had a happy birthday!
Here's woofing at you, kid...

Too cute! We were adopted by a mix breed stray about almost two years ago...I've always wanted to know what she was really made up of.
But, it costs $100 bucks or so.

Dear Dekker:
Most interesting heritage you got going there. And such a cool name. Perhaps someday out sniffs will cross and I can meet you.

for those of you who may not know, the above commenter - Winston - is a very cool beagle of Chatty's acquaintance. VERY cool beagle...but of course the phrase "cool beagle" may be redundant...

Congratulations, Dekker. One of our very best dog friends is a black lab-chow mix; we think Zelda is wonderful!
Happy birthday to your daddy!
(and a fond hello to your friend, Chatty)

They have dog DNA tests? Wow. It really is an amazing world we live in.

I thought I recognized that puppy! And I can certainly second those motions about the Dearly Departed Tour. It's loads of fun, and has been all over TV (such as E etc)
