Chatty's first Wordzzles...

Chatty is back from her wonderful mini-vacation to Tucson, about which she will tell you soon.

But, at the moment, she wants to tell you about an excellent new game she has found (thanks, Jay!) - and to show you the results of her writing labors, of course…

You can learn all about the inception of this writing game by reading Raven's blog, but Chatty will attempt to explain it in a few words.

Yeah, right. When has Chatty ever used just a few words?

ANYWAY - Wordzzle is a writing exercise wherein a certain number of random words have to be worked into a coherent paragraph or two. The idea is to come up with a mini-story that makes sense, using all the random words.

Chatty was a bit surprised at the stories she came up with – but the words seemed to dictate where each story would go, so Chatty just followed.

The first Wordzzle involves 10 random words - the second “mini” Wordzzle contains 5 different random words.

Without further ado, here are Chatty’s first entries for Raven’s Wordzzle challenge:

Random words for the Ten Word Challenge:

invincible, falling leaves, laptop, two-year-old, fusion, grizzly bear, Jamaica, delivery,     popsicle stick, caviar:

“Johnny was as invincible as any other two-year-old, growling around his father’s feet as he played at being a grizzly bear. Daddy wasn’t paying any attention, though – he was busy on his laptop, cursing this vacation in Jamaica his wife had insisted upon. He groaned, then swore aloud that he would sell his soul for a decent radio news station instead of the endless reggae/jazz fusion that poured from every speaker at this damned “resort”. Just then, Johnny’s mom walked in with a plate of toast and a little jar of what looked like black jam, gaily announcing “Special delivery!” Johnny had finished his frozen treat, but he was always hungry - and that black jam looked yummy! Daddy just growled “Maybe later.” His mother turned to look out the window, wishing she had planned their vacation in Vermont instead – at least then she could be watching the falling leaves while listening to her husband’s constant whining. Johnny realized that nobody was paying any attention to him, so he stopped being a grizzly bear and sidled toward the caviar - popsicle stick clenched at the ready in one chubby hand.”

Random words for the Five Word Mini-Challenge:

toad stool, liquid lunch, counting sheep, manacles, Jurassic Park:

“He desperately wanted to be unconscious. He had tried counting sheep, but it hadn’t worked. The roiling of his stomach made him feel as though he had ingested a bucketful of magic toadstools even Lewis Carroll couldn’t have envisioned. Yep, he definitely had to cut back on these long liquid lunches, Roger acknowledged idly - gazing listlessly from his manacled hands to the raptors running amok in Jurassic Park on the big-screen TV across the bedroom. The toilet flushed, the bathroom door opened. Romantic it was not.”

OK, that’s all Chatty came up with – but boy, did she have fun!

Welcome to Wordzzles! These are both wonderful! Well done. Your first one sets the stage so well that I can completely envision what comes nest. And the second made me chuckle. Aren't wordzzle fun? So glad you are joining in.

    Hi Chatty,
I have enjoyed your first venture into Wordzzles. I so want to know if baby gets all the caviar and suspect Daddy isn't a happy man and neither is Mommy!
I had to smile at your second one - great minds I guess - mine too has manacles in the bedroom.

Welcome to the world of Wordzzle. By the end of your ten word, I was ready to slap that guy for being such a whiner. Nice descriptive writing.

I can just see the look on Johnny's face as he gets his first taste of the "jam"... not quite as priceless as the look on Roger's face though. Very well done.

Oh, and isn't Jay just cooler than a popsicle?

    Welcome to Wordzzle.

I loved both your stories. The moment I read "invincible 2 yr old" I knew it would be good!

Hope you join in again and again.

I took this week off but my continuing story will be back next week.

Wow… you have blown me away! I loved them both… GRAT use of making the words look like they belong there and not like they were added in or built around.

    Hats off!

Thanks to all my new blogging acquaintances for making me feel so welcome, and for being so kind about my first Wordzzles!

But, ummmm - for those of you who were looking forward to vacation photos...they would have been MUCH more impressive (and plentiful) if Chatty had remembered to take EITHER OF HER TWO CAMERAS, instead of having to fall back on her cell phone, competent though it is...

    *sigh*
