As we wait for land-fall
Mother Nature is a stern taskmaster, and she brooks no interference.
I now wait and hope that this new hurricane will lose strength and not lay waste to the coast of Texas.
However, hurricanes being what they are - and meteorology being as exact as it is - this is probably a vain hope.
So, I pray that those who need to evacuate - especially those who fear to do so because they are in this country without proper validation - will take heed, trust the government of the state of Texas, and LEAVE while there is still time.
I have friends in Florida and New Orleans who had to evacuate because of Gustav, and I have friends living near Galveston, who as I write are packing up to travel north.
My thoughts and prayers go out to those who are facing damage, and possibly homelessness.
It is my hope that whatever the physical damage, all lives will be spared.
I know you join me in this hope, and that those of you who believe in prayer are on your knees, as I am tonight.

I have family in southern Texas who have evacuated...I too fret for the safety and well being of those who inevitably do not. Not to mention homes and property in the path of this storm.

This one will be affecting my family as well. My Uncle lives in Brownsville - which now looks to be more than likely spared - my parents however have their winter home just outside of Corpus Christi and are a nervous wreck about what will be left of their place. I'm just thankful they are still here in Iowa, and not in the hurricane's path although many of their friend's are. Praying for all those affected by this fury of nature.
