Chatty Beads a Cardinals Bracelet

Chatty wanted to bead a Cardinals bracelet to wear for the Superbowl.

Because, Chatty is passing strange - but perhaps you who read with any regularity will already have noticed that...

She decided the best way to do this would be on a beading loom.

Chatty did not HAVE a beading loom, and she had certainly never beaded on one - but, what the heck?

Besides, by the time she thought of making a bracelet, she had six whole days, - so why not learn something new?

    Yeah, right.

    She made a pattern:

Notice that this pattern does not say "Cardinals", much less "Arizona Cardinals" - because it quickly became apparent to Chatty that a bracelet long enough to spell out "Cardinals" would be too big for even the largest player on that team's wrist - not that a Cardinal (or ANY member of the NFL, for that matter) would wear one. *sigh*

    She shortened it to "Cards".

    So far, so good.

Next, she borrowed a loom from her beading teacher and brought it home to show The Wiz.

He could make one for her, couldn't he?

    "Sure," The Wiz replied.

    And he did.

The Wiz is very cool that way.

Chatty had her beads, she had her Wiz-bang loom, she had her thread (braided fishing line, actually), and she had read instructions on the Internet - so she was ready to string up the loom and begin.

    Here we go:

Soon, it was time to start the pattern. Chatty got so involved that she forgot to take pictures.

    Typical.

Anyway, here's the bracelet, finished, but still on the loom:

After snipping and threading all the loom threads back through the bracelet, Chatty backed it with suede and attached a toggle clasp.

The result (taken at a weird angle, because Chatty was holding the camera with one hand and "posing" the other hand):

Chatty believes this is not bad for a first effort.

Next up, a Steelers bracelet for Steeler Girl...

    But, GO CARDINALS!!!

Kcinnova admires Chatty's mad beading skillz AND The Wiz's loom-building talent.

Kcinnova would have made a Cardinals bracelet by stringing the appropriate colored beads on a single strand of stretchy line and then tying it, because because that's how she rolls: lame@$$ beading.

This is so cool. How long did it take from start to finish? Too bad that elastic thread is not a option--but I can now see why that would make a person crazy. Your bracelet is really pretty.

This bracelet ended up taking about 11 hours to make - but now that I know (a bit ) what I'm doing, I hope to shave off an hour. You can only bead so fast, however, without risking mistakes when you are following even a simple pattern. So, I would think in future 10 hours will be about the best I can do and still do it correctly.

The loom actually took only about 45 minutes to build... It was Easy!
